Patchouli essential oil is celebrated worldwide for its signature rich, sweet and spicy fragrance and is often included as a main ingredient in cosmetics, skincare and perfumes. It smells like a blend made by the Gods, but it is from just one plant. The essential oil is created by aging and then fermenting the leaves of the Pogostemon cablin shrub. They are then distilled to release the essential oil. As this oil matures, it turns from translucent yellow to a deep amber brown, and the thinner liquid becomes thicker and more viscous. That is the point when the magical, spiritual, uplifting aroma of Patchouli develops to its fullest - round, mellow and deep.

Patchouli is revered in Chinese, Ayurvedic, and Greek traditional medicines for its potent medicinal qualities. It is used as an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, fungicide, insecticide, cell regenerator, antidepressant, deodorant, diuretic, sedative, tonic, antiphlogistic, aphrodisiac, astringent, and decongestant. When added to formulations or diluted with carrier oils, it also helps to treat skin-related issues such as sagging skin, enlarged pores, varicose veins and wrinkles. Patchouli essential oil stimulates skin cells to regenerate, and also reduces inflammation from many skin conditions such as acne, eczema, dermatitis, sores, scar tissue, skin infections, insect bites and dry, itchy skin. Patchouli is also wonderful for hair, and can be added to hair formulations to condition and stimulate growth.
