Elemi is a tree autochthonous to the Philippines. The oil is derived from the steam distillation of the oleoresin to produce a piney, lemon like essential oil.
Elemi contains several therapeutic properties including its ability to act as an expectorant, relieving congestions from the lungs and bronchial passages. It is considered an analgesic in that it reduces pain. The stimulating properties of elemi essential ol help to surmount mental fatigue. As with many essential oils elemi is antiseptic and curtails unwanted bacteria.
Elemi essential oil is an exotic addition for cosmetic applications, personal care formulations, soaps, perfumery, and aromatherapy.
