Cinnamon Leaf (Ceylon) Essential Oil is extracted from the leaves of Cinnamomum verum, native to Sri Lanka
and parts of South India. Renowned for its warm, spicy, and slightly sweet aroma, Cinnamon Leaf (Ceylon)
Oil is highly valued in aromatherapy, personal care, and culinary applications. It belongs to the same
botanical family as cassia and camphor.
Cinnamon is one of mankind’s oldest known spices. Cinnamomum verum (translation: “True Cinnamon”) is the
highest quality cinnamon in the world. It’s also called Sri Lankan or Ceylon Cinnamon (Cinnamomum
zeylanicum), after the former name of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is the only country that can regularly supply true cinnamon bark and leaf oils. Grown and distilled in the
tropics of Sri Lanka, our HBNO® Cinnamon Leaf (Ceylon) Essential Oil is sourced from farmers who
pride themselves on cultivating a nonpareil chemotype.
As a leading supplier of high-quality Essential oils, HBNO® offers wholesale prices for bulk quantities of

(Ceylon) Essential Oil.
AROMA:
Musky, warm, clove-like, spicy, and slightly sweet. Cinnamon Leaf Oil is lighter and muskier than
Cinnamon Bark Oil. More clove-like compared to the sweetness of cinnamon bark oil. It's still
pungent and warm, but less intense. Here's an analogy: Cinnamon bark oil is like a strong cup of
black coffee, while cinnamon leaf oil is like a lighter, more nuanced cup of tea.

Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil is less commonly used for pest control than Cinnamon Bark
Oil. While Cinnamon Bark Oil contains cinnamaldehyde, which has insecticidal and
antifungal properties, and repels and kills insects, Cinnamon Leaf Oil neither repels nor kills.
Rather, with its sweet-smelling geraniol and eugenol content, it is primarily used as an attractant in agricultural
and garden applications in combination with sticky traps. It lures thrips and leafminers and Japanese beetles.
Cinnamon Leaf Oil contains geraniol, which has been shown to attract thrips and leafminers.
Distilled from the leaves (not the bark), it also contains eugenol, which is known to attract Japanese beetles.
Adding the oil to insect sticky traps can help attract these unwanted pests and capture them.
Food Preservative
Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil’s use as a food preservative is drawing increasing interest from food
producers as a natural alternative to synthetic food preservatives.
Safety and Efficacy:
This product’s use in food preservation is not widespread. It is still in its infancy and has its challenges, most
notably that the concentration necessary to be an effective food preservative may not be safe, and may overwhelm the
flavor and aroma of the food product. It is best used modestly in combination with other established
food-preservation techniques.
Read here (link to the above HBNO landing Food Preservative page) for more information about the potential benefits
and limitations of the use of this product as a food preservative.
If you are considering using essential oils as food preservatives, do your research and consult with qualified food
scientists or professionals as to safe and effective formulations and usage that is consistent with the approved use
of the ingredient.
Bee Keeping:
Cinnamon Leaf Oil may potentially be effective in controlling Varroa mites, a major pest of
honeybees. However, beekeepers should consult expert advice to determine safe and effective use.
